It’s indicative of the kind of thinking Casio applied to the rest of the watch; definitely built for a budget, but with some real thought behind it. Most of the mod processes are difficult to depict by words, so I plan to launch a series of tutorials and behind the scenes soon. Also, since I heard from many that the glass is prone to scratches, I thought of using a mobile screenguard on the watch screen to see if that might work. The watch’s large square case design provides a wealth of easy-to-read information, such as World Time Map and Analog LC Display. So although the 1300 displays the second time zone while in World Time mode, the 1200 seems to be easier to scroll through the time zones without having to switch modes. Setting the time and date requires more fiddling than any analog watch would need, but it is a true set-and-forget; once you have your time and function preferences set, there should be little need to mess around further, and it says right on the face, you won’t need to worry about a dead battery for a good long time.

I know some of you are already noting the hypocrisy of my praising sapphire when I have spent years lauding the appeal of acrylic. As for the AE-1300 model, having only a single alarm(as opposed to 5 in the 1200 model) seems to be a minor drawback. If you are looking to upgrade your AE1200 strap (and you should) I cannot recommend the Vario straps strongly enough.A Kranio bronze case with a salt and ammonia-fume patina could look pretty intense, and I’ve seen folks filling theirs with oil à la Sinn Hydro UX. to be precise), and that is pretty darn big for a square watch, but short lugs bring its overall length to just 45mm, which is a tidy fit on my 6. It reminds me of the 1990s when car manufacturers went crazy with badging, and a name like “Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 Twin-Turbo” was just a normal thing.
