Gwelf: The Survival Guide: 1 (Gwelf, 1)
About this deal
Larry MacDougall has done that thing-created a fantasy world that is completely believable, super charming, and more than a little bit dangerous. So conversely my least favourite part of the process is having to follow some kind of predetermined path to a predictable result.
The Gwelf was spawned into existence one day by the Dig-Its, because they wanted to see if they could invent a new species with the plethora of materials and resources they already hoarded. Flubb tried everything to get rid of the squirrel, but he could not, because his attention had been drawn to the Gwelf constantly.A typical day for me starts around 7:00ish where I have a quick breakfast, check e-mail, and then hopefully be drawing by 8:00. He began working for gaming publishers, contributing work to many projects in the Dungeons and Dragons, fantasy tabletop role playing vein. What I did for years was to design my work on printer paper first and then transfer it to the final watercolour paper with a lightbox.
I’ve also learned to design my illustrations for watercolour, knowing what will and will not lend itself to the medium. As I said before the book is gorgeous thanks to the magnificent artwork but it is also wildly entertaining.
Since the lockdown, I don’t really see anybody but I do stay in pretty close contact with my editor Stephanie Dror through e-mail, or texting, or phone chats.
