About this deal
This astonishing new novel from the author of Time Traveling with a Hamster, told in alternating perspectives by Alfie and Aidan, is a tour de force--a sweeping epic that takes you on an unforgettable, breathtaking adventure and asks big questions about the meaning of life. Alfie has been 11 years old since the Viking invasions after having taken a ‘life-pearl’ which prevents ageing.

This book not only had light humor, but it actually had a deep lesson, leaving me warm and fuzzy inside.I would recommend it to anyone aged 9-13 who loves books about friendship, family-ship, trust, history, and fantasy. For instance, the flashback to Alfie’s past during the Viking invasion is used to set up the fantastical element, which goes on to underpin the plot of the story.
The 1,000 Year Old Boy - OnFife The 1,000 Year Old Boy - OnFife
With both fantasy and history as its undertone, The 1,000-Year-Old Boythen foregrounds its bildungsroman-esque plot as the overarching genre. With his new friends, Aidan and Roxy, he sets out on an epic, dangerous adventure to find a way to reverse the effect of the magical life-pearls, which have kept him 11 years old for 1000 years. There are some challenging themes here – I read Matt Haig’s How to Stop Timeearlier this year, where the main protagonist has a condition which means he ages extremely slowly. Alas, the budding engineer barely has time to settle in to begin work on an experimental circus wagon powered by chicken poop and dubbed (with questionable forethought) the Autopsy.
